Oxford continues to support New Zealand schools with the second edition of Mathematics and Statistics for Aotearoa New Zealand

Having been selected in the initial panel in 2024, Oxford University Press Australia & New Zealand are delighted to once again be an approved Ministry-funded maths resource under New Zealand's Make It Count action plan.

Trusted by thousands of educators across Aotearoa, we are building on the first edition of Mathematics and Statistics and publishing a brand-new edition, now written by our New Zealand-based author team – featuring explicit teaching slides, student workbooks, supportive yearly and term planners, lesson plans, and interactive assessment builders.

These resources are fully funded by the Ministry of Education and available for, and beyond, the 2027 school year. Ordering opens in Term 2 and Term 3 2026, for resources to be delivered for Term 1 2027.

Built to support the priorities of Make It Count

The Make It Count maths action plan reflects a national focus on strengthening mathematics achievement across Aotearoa New Zealand, with the goal of 80% of Year 8 students achieving at or above expected curriculum levels by 2030. At the heart of this effort is the rollout of a structured, knowledge-rich Mathematics and Statistics curriculum, supported by high-quality teaching and learning resources. Oxford's Mathematics and Statistics for Aotearoa New Zealand (Second Edition) continues to support these priorities, offering schools a trusted, fully curriculum-aligned resource that reflects the refreshed Mathematics and Statistics learning area and the Knowledge and Practices framework.

Developed specifically for New Zealand learners, the second edition of Mathematics and Statistics for Aotearoa New Zealand builds on the success of the first edition and reflects extensive consultation and research with New Zealand schools, teachers and curriculum leaders. Feedback from educators across Aotearoa has helped shape the new edition, ensuring the series continues to meet the evolving needs of classrooms while aligning with the refreshed Mathematics and Statistics learning area.

Written to the New Zealand Curriculum

The second edition is written and fully aligned to the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum, supporting the development of essential mathematical knowledge and practices through clear year-by-year progression. This edition has been developed with and authored by experienced New Zealand educators, who have been living and breathing the New Zealand Curriculum.

Built around evidence-informed teaching approaches and principles from the Science of Learning, the series helps teachers provide structured learning experiences while ensuring students can connect, apply and extend their mathematical understanding over time.

We have analysed the New Zealand Curriculum Knowledge and Practices and appropriately formed ‘Topics’.

• Most topics are taught over a week (i.e. 5 hours of teaching).
• Each topic includes a pre- and post-test (in digital or print format), allowing for flexible groups to be formed based on prior knowledge and ability.
• Every topic includes a detailed lesson plan and front-of-class teaching slides for every lesson.
• The lesson plan and front-of-class teaching slides for every topic align directly with the Learn, Explore and Deepen tasks in the Student Workbook.
