Finch AI Student Tutor supports your students by breaking down complex questions and providing helpful hints that will assist students to find the answers on their own.
Finch will now be available for select digital OUP titles and will be coming to a growing number of new release titles in 2025 and beyond.
How to use Finch AI Student Tutor
If Finch is available for your oBook, you will see a new button on your navigation sidebar. Clicking on this will take you to the AI Tutor controls page.
You can also access the controls via the lesson opening panel button. This button indicates the status of AI for all classes using this product.
Upon pressing one of these buttons, you will be taken to the Teacher Controls area, where you are able to select a class to view from the drop-down menu.
By default, AI should be off for your account and off for your classes.
The ‘Enable AI for my account’ control will enable Finch to show up on your Oxford Digital view.
This will make Finch icons appear in context within the digital content; clicking this icon is a useful way to see what kinds of responses Finch will be giving to your students.
Turning it on for your students:
After enabling AI for your account, use the drop-down to access your class list. There will be an indicator for each class that shows if AI is 'On for all content', 'On for selected content' or 'Off for all content'.
This status will change as you toggle Finch on or off at a module or lesson level.
Note: as it stands, the classes drop-down will show your classes along with any other teachers' classes using the product. We will be looking to change this if teachers find it too confusing.
Enabling Finch for a class means that there will now be a 'Finch Tutor' tab on the student’s Oxford Digital.
Finch will also appear beside individual exercise questions. Finch AI Tutor pulls only from Oxford content, ensuring that the content is safe and evidence based. Finch supports your students by breaking down complex questions and providing helpful hints that will assist students to find the answers on their own.
At the bottom of the chat window, ‘Related content’ appears, containing links to videos relevant to the module.
